I realized early, very early, this morning that I’ve been asking the wrong question. How can you expect to get the right answer if you ask the wrong question? How can you find what you’re looking for if you’re looking where it’s not?

Several years ago I was driving from St. Louis to North Carolina. I took the route I always take. Somehow I lulled myself into complacency and didn’t pay attention to the signs at a critical juncture in Kentucky. Two hours later I find myself almost in Memphis! Oops! Last time I’d checked, Memphis is in the opposite direction. What was a long, almost 20-hour trip had just turned into a 24-hour trip. I was really bummed.

I had a dream that woke me this morning. Stupid dream. But it irked me enough that I couldn’t get back to sleep. Interesting that this became the springboard to the above revelation.

I’ve been telling God what to do. This has caused me to ask the wrong question: Why aren’t you doing what I’m asking (telling) you to do? Perhaps he has no intention of doing what I’m telling him to do. Perhaps it should be the other way around?

Maybe I should be looking at what he can do, is doing, and energetically be about doing my part in his deal, while the sun is still shining. You think?
