I experienced a “first” for Ubaúna early this morning… I was so cold that I was shivering. It must have dropped into the upper 50´s in the early morning hours. This is unheard of! On top of that, it rained! It doesn´t rain here in July. So not only was I freezing, I got wet because my hammock was strung on the side of the house where the wind blew the rain in.
There is nothing as miserable as being cold, wet and no where to go to escape it except wait for an hour or so for the normal heat to return (it did and its now a balmy 95). Just to make it more interesting, we did not have water last night so most folks couldn´t take a shower after sweating all day (some of the more “brave of heart” took showers in the dark close to the caretaker´s house — trust me, it kept the hair on the back of your neck standing at attention just waiting for something slimy to jump or drop on you) and we didn´t have water when we woke up shivering this morning.
If you´ve ever been hot, sweaty, and grimy, imagine having to sleep that way and then realizing that you still couldn´t take a bath when you woke up! Our crew are real troopers — they took it in style. When we finally did get some water up into the waterbox, it was freezing, but not one person complained!
And just to make it a bit more exciting, ALL the toilets are out! But not before being used the day before and not flushed! THAT is one funky smell. 🙂
The one nice thing is that without the water, the invasion of the little frogs has diminished.
