Saul turned and left Samuel. At that very moment God transformed him—made him a new person! And all the confirming signs took place the same day. —1 Samuel 10
Saul was a nobody, literally.
When Samuel showed up to anoint him as the new king, he actually hid from the prophet. When found, he protested that he was the least of the least family of the least tribe of Israel and couldn’t Samuel please go find somebody else.
The only thing Saul had going for him was his good looks.
That, and his inclination to follow orders. Samuel told him to do whatever he was instructed to do and guaranteed him that God would be with him.
This really warms the cockles of my heart! Little ol’ insignificant me can catch God’s attention with my obedience. He sees me. When he gives me a job to accomplish, he will transform me into a new person to achieve the desired ends.
I find that to be on the neat side of the equation…
