Samuel’s heart was broken.
God addressed Samuel: “So, how long are you going to mope over Saul? You know I’ve rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your flask with anointing oil and get going. I’m sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I’ve spotted the very king I want among his sons.”Be on your way… (1 Samuel 16:1)
He’d been the one who’d sworn Saul in as king. He’d been the first king Israel had ever had and Samuel had been his trusted counselor. But now, now it had come crashing down and Samuel was having a hard time dealing with it.
It was for the best, but it still hurt.
So it is for us. When God brings a close to a season or a relationship, it can hurt –maybe seem devastating and overwhelming– even though it is for the best.
Family, work, friends, church, business… fill your flash and get going. You are never left in the dust and destruction that seems to be all around you.
The very next king, even better than the first, is just around the corner.
But you’ve got to “get going.”
