Recently had a fellow tell me about his pastor who was always wanting to have a grandiose “cathedral” of a church, a “monument to Jesus” and was willing to spend big bucks to make it happen.

Almost a “build it and they will come” type of mentality.

At one point my friend wanted to meet with the pastor to discuss a plan about working with the homeless. The pastor said he couldn’t meet with him because he was “grabbing a bite with the ‘boss,'” his euphemism for praying. My friend tried repeatedly to get together with the pastor but he was always “grabbing a bite with the boss” in order to build his “monument.”
