This is going to date me…
Paul Revere and the Raiders had a song called “Hungry” in the mid-60’s. The chorus stated:
I’m hungry for those good things, baby
Hungry through and through
I’m hungry for that sweet life, baby
I woke up this morning with this chorus on my mind and haven’t been able to shake it. As I thought about it, I realized that it was expressing a sentiment I’ve been experiencing for the last month. Though my hunger is different from that alluded to in the song, the lyrics recount a deep-seated desire that is expressed in the rawness of the singing of the song (if you’ve never heard the song or don’t even know who Paul Revere and the Raiders are, sorry).
The verse that came immediately to mind was this:
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. -Ephesians 3:17-19
That is what I’m hungry for, through and through.
