Do you find it interesting the way things begin to work when you get out of the way and let God do his number?
I’ll readily admit that this is a relatively new experience for me. I sincerely wish that all those years that have gone under the bridge and over the dam could be retrieved and reused for effectively in this regard. Alas, they’re long gone and I need to concentrate on those that I still have.
Let me give you an example:
Last week I was commiserating that I just couldn’t get a handle on what was supposed to be happening in Ubaúna. It “dawned” on me that I was trying a bit too hard. I’m really not needed in this equation; God has invited me along for the ride — he never asked me to drive. So, I disconnected. I told him that it was his show.
On Monday I threw in the towel and told him “whatever;” just show me.
The very next day a man I’ve never met or even heard of shows up in the store wanting to know if we sold Guarana. He was obviously an American and that intrigued me. So I asked him how he knew about the drink. He replied it was his favorite drink and that he could only get it when in Brazil. A friend had told him there was this little shop that carried it and he decided to pop in and check it out.
This fellow goes to Brazil every 12 weeks and is involved in some fascinating work with churches in the northeast of the country. What would have been a 5-10 minute conversation lasted 90 minutes! This conversation opened doors that I didn’t even know existed. He told me things that only I knew and multiple times admitted that he didn’t know what he was saying meant but that he knew he was supposed to tell me.
What was especially interesting was that the phones did not ring one time, no one walked in, there was not one interruption. The moment we finished, all four phone lines began ringing, a crowd of people came in the door, UPS, DHL and the postman came in with boxes and all grades of activity erupted around us.
Coincidence? Hmmm…
