I’ve just got to be one of the most blessed folks walking around sucking down good air!
When you consider that all the odds are stacked against you — Satan’s just watching and waiting for any and every chance to take you down, people are idiots, taxes are high, politicians are dishonest, traffic is bad and all my underwear is dirty (I wonder why Arimar hasn’t done laundry this week?) — it makes absolutely no sense to consider yourself blessed. I almost feel like it’s illegal!
Let me give you a few examples…
Wife: I’ve got the best there is. Period. Even when she’s bad, she’s good. She makes me whole, makes me smile, makes me run for cover . . . in essence, she makes me. We don’t do Valentine’s Day because it happens every day in our house. She’s my queen and I’m proud of her.
Friends: I’ve got to have some of the best ones around. I really don’t mean to hog them, but I won’t give them up. I once heard it said that if you can live your life and die with 10 really good, close friends, that you would be in a 1% majority of people. Well, I may not have 10 — yet — but I can definitely count 5. These are folks who’d come no matter the hour I called; they would go to bat for me, no questions asked. Even if I were guilty, they’d stand beside me. I would do the same for them. I’m working hard on #6 and #7.
Church: I told someone today that I have been put where I am at this particular time because I’m gonna get the bejibbers blessed out of me through Lifepoint. God has prepared me my entire life to be involved in this church that is going to turn Wilmington on it’s ear.
Kids: None better on the face of the earth. They’re all adults, they all have their own life (I DO NOT suffer from empty nest syndrome, thank you very much! 🙂 ), I’m proud of every one of them and they generally think I’m a halfway decent fellow. I actually like spending time with them as adults.
I may not be rolling in the dough, my cars may be old, my wardrobe may look pre-80’s, my hair is definitely going whiter and I’m surprised at the places a body can begin to ache even though I’ve done nothing to cause it to do so. But when I take stock of what God is doing in and around me, I have to smile.
What a stack of blessing you have piled up
for those who worship you,
Ready and waiting for all who run to you
to escape an unkind world.
