It is interesting how we are able to read passages like 1 Peter 5:8-9 (Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.) and think that either we are immune from it or that it isn’t really the truth.
I sat with a friend last night who’d just watched a mutual friend go over the cliff spiritually. If you’d known the man, you would have be hard pressed to have foreseen how a bad situation would end up shipwrecking his faith.
Folks, the Enemy is real. Just because you deny it doesn’t change it. I’ve seen, and been a part of, the best of them, the spiritual elite. I’ve watched their, and my, destruction of what they, I, called “faith.” To be lying on the ground looking up at him sneering down at you, totally defeated, is not a pleasant nor redeeming experience.
I know what it is to have been mistaken about my faith; actually, to have been deceived about it. It is a mistake that is ruthless.
Jesus has far more planned for us than being a juicy meal for our Enemy. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it can’t happen to you…
