I’m beginning to believe that someone snuck into my house and replaced my Bible with a different one.
The more I read it, the more I seem to find I’ve never read it before!
Here’s what I found this morning in Job 7:17-18: What is man, that you make so much of him, and that you set your heart on him, visit him every morning and test him every moment?
Why hasn’t anyone ever told me that God drops in on me every morning, and even more important, puts me to a test? Did I miss the memo on that? Am I ready to receive a visitor like that in the a.m.? Or, what now concerns me more, why is he wanting to test me all day long?
Is this like those annoying sounds that come on the radio, interrupting my music with an ominous voice that states, “This is a test of the Emergency Broadcasting System. This is only a test.”
Jeez Louise! Is he mad at me or something? Is he just looking for a reason to put me down?
Out of curiosity, I looked up “test” in the Random House Unabridged Dictionary. It defined “test” as: the means by which the presence, quality, or genuineness of anything is determined.
Whoa! Could it be that testing is actually a indication of God’s favor? He tests me because he wants to determine my value? He definitely did that with Job (Job 1:8, 23:10)
Fortunately, I did find James 5:11 and that helped.
But now I think I’ll be waking up a bit differently. If God thinks I’m that important, perhaps I ought to be thinking a bit more highly of myself as well…
