Though not related to Brasil, at least directly, I’ve received this prayer request from Open Doors and wanted to pass it along to you.

Pastor Zaur Balaev of Azerbaijan Sentenced to Two Years Imprisonment

Detained since May of this year, Pastor Zaur Balaev has recently been sentenced to two years imprisonment for violence against a state representative, despite a lack of evidence. Since his detention, Zaur has suffered two heart attacks and is currently experiencing kidney pain. According to the leader of the Baptist Union, Ilya Zenchenko, conditions in Zaur’s cell—known as the “frog pool”—are terrible, with no proper toilet or ventilation. In the midst of this tribulation, Zaur, along with his family and members from his church are grateful for the prayers and support they have received.

Please pray:

• For Zaur’s health and that he will find rest and hope in God at this time. Isaiah 38:16
• For another court hearing, that justice will be administered and that he will be released quickly. Exodus 23:2
• That Zaur’s family will experience God’s comfort and provision through this difficult time. Psalm 71:21
• That the church will stand strong through this, and that Zaur’s testimony will encourage other Christians in Azerbaijan. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
