Two months ago AT&T did a nice number on us.
We were charged hundreds of dollars unfairly (we were “given” services we didn’t need or ask for), threatened (blackmailed) with having our phones turned off if we didn’t pay and still had our DSL service removed and not allowed to have it turned back on without paying hundreds of dollars more. On top of that, they turned off our 800 number, removed our voice mail and put up an announcement stating that our phones had been turned off due to failure to pay.
We lost thousands of dollars in sales, had patients going crazy trying to contact us and were unable to place orders with our vendors. I wasn’t a happy camper.
We had the chance to leave “Ma Bell” two weeks ago and we jumped.
We are now paying $300 less per month AND have free and unlimited long-distance calling.
I got a phone call yesterday. This is where the fun began…
“Hello! This is AT&T calling you to thank you for your loyal service.”
“Really? Are you sure you’ve dialed the right number?”
“Oh yes sir! You’ve been a great customer! We now want to reward you with additional services at no charge.”
[This is how we got in trouble to begin with]
“What do you think of our service so far?”
[Honestly, I laughed out loud] “You really want to know?”
“Yessir!”
“Well, it sucks.”
“Excuse me?”
“It sucks, you know, like a vaccum cleaner, s-u-c-k-s.”
“Sir, are you upset?”
“Nope! But I’m no longer your customer.”
“According to our records you are.”
“Then your records are doing that vaccum cleaner thing.”
“Huh?”
“Your records suck.”
“Well, is there any way we can get you back? We’ll beat the rate you now have.”
[I tell them what I now have]
“There is no way we can offer that to you!”
This was the fun part…
“In that case, I’m afraid I’ll have to terminate you (the word they used with me). Goodbye!”
As I hung up the phone, I turned to find my wife looking at me with a quizzical look on her face. She asked me: “Did you just tell someone on the phone that they sucked?”
