I’ve got two of the best sons-in-law in the world. Both come from foreign countries and have now made the U.S. their homes. They are married to my two favorite daughters.
My eldest offspring married Rodrigo while living in Brasil as an exchange student back in the 90’s. Rod is the Rock of Gibraltar. Nothing phases him –I think he could stand in front of a category 5 hurricane and not be impacted! (Hmmm… thinking about it, maybe that is why he is such a perfect match for my daughter…) He oozes confidence and patience. He makes me proud, and honored, to be his father-in-law.
My middle child married Charlie while living in the country of Tennessee as a college student at the turn of the century (sounds like a long time ago, doesn’t it?). I have heard rumors that Tennessee might actually join the Union in the near future and that would automatically make Charlie a citizen. That would be good. This fellow is smart, loving and kind. To watch him playing with my granddaughter just warms the cockles of my heart.
Like, Rod, I think I’ll keep him.
Charlie wrote something on his blog that merits your perusal. It’s something that happens to all of us who claim to follow Jesus. And, Charlie, it’s not a defeat. It is your training for the hundreds upon hundreds of people who The One Who Never Dies will put in front of you for you to make a difference in their lives. Wisdom gained from experience will stay with you forever.
And it will make you more like Him…
